Frequently Asked Questions!
Here's some questions I see often! Mainly through fanmail and my comment section! Figured that a lot of people who follow me are young artists, so I really hope this is helpful!
Before you ask, please check out the 'About me!' page button down below, your personal questions might be answered there!
How do I form my own art style?
My art, in my opinion, is inconsistent, so when I get this question in the mail often, it's always a little bit of a surprise! But I do know how to answer this question! One thing that will help is to stop seeing your art style as just a YOU thing. Your art style is very special, but it is not something that is solely formed by yourself (stick with me!) It will help to see your art style as a combination of all that inspires you, because that's what it is! Coming into terms with that could help you form the things that you dislike about your art, and change it to things that you like. Ex : "I don't like how I draw my jaws, but I like how ****** draws their jaws, so I will try drawing it similar!" or "I don't like my color palette, so I will try using similar colors from this anime I adore." Don't get it confused with copying or tracing! It's mainly acknowledging your inspirations! The best way I could describe it is your art style is literally a zombie of anime, cartoon, other artists, likes, dislikes and whatever media you consume. Every artist has their own inspirations ! Disconnecting from thinking that art styles have to be 100% perfect, original, something that no one has seen before, could help you form your art style by erasing that individualistic mentality.
Who are your favorite characters to draw?
I have some comfort characters that I kinda hyperfixtate on sometimes haha ! For sure, my favorites have be Serpent Pillar, Fire Emblem's Henry, Shinji Ikari, and I had a pretty long Ouma Kokichi phase.... Weird taste. Other than that, I like to draw my ocs!
How do we send fanmail?
Not to sound like a boomer but I get a handful of these! I guess letter writing kind of died out with modern technology. But no worries ! I love writing letters, so I'm more than happy to explain to you , the reader, how to send letters! I encourage to send letters to your friends too, it's really fun, and it's a really nice feeling to get them!
So! You write your letter on paper and whatnot, put it in an envelope, you could add whatever you want, but keep in mind, if it's a letter, you are sending a flat! Flats could be shipped with just stamps, but if you overstuff the envelope, it might not slip though the flat's width limit, and if it's too heavy, then a simple stamp won't do! That would make it a parcel, and shipping it would require more than one stamp! If you're sending a lot of things, more than stamps could suffice, then you would have to head to your local post to ship it out with them. Over there, they make a shipping label and ship it for you, it costs more though.
That's pretty much it! Little reminders, you could buy stamps at any post office, or any pharmacy, maybe even cornerstores, but I never checked any yet! Remember to add your address with everything you ship out so the person you're sending to could write back! Make sure it's the right address too, because spelling mistakes happen! My PO Box at the bottom!
How are you so good at art ? How are you so cool too? How is your meat so bi-
Dear person asking this question, which is me, but HYPOTHETICALLY, the person asking this question , you don't have to hype me up so much ! :^))))) I'm just simple lil ole Meli... Keep all of your good vibez! Practice what you love, gravitate towards positivity, and don't put yourself down. It will make your meat HUGE .
What brush is that?
This question is a little bit annoying because I get it nonstop even when I answer it. Almost all of my artwork is 100% done with 6B pencil on procreate, if not, it's the marker tool. Tip- Get used to what brushes you have by making a canvas and write down the name of the brush with the brush itself with a little test scribble next to it.
The pixel brush is a custom brush I made off a YouTube tutorial! I'm not tech savvy or good at explaining so please look for the people who
made well written tutorials of it.
Will you ever make a resin or art tutorial?
No, I don't really have any of that in mind. Especially not for resin, because resin should only be done with a secure setup because of how dangerous and just destructive it could be. I've made alot of resin mistakes even if I watched tutorials to learn alot of resin things. I'm just not comfortable with encouraging people to do resin and something wrong comes from that. Resin is just another thing that I'm like 'go to someone else to learn it' about lmao.
As for art , I have no topics in mind I could teach! I'm very basic with art, I just do whatever I think looks nice or whatever I feel like doing, so it's a little hard to explain. Art is a very general thing and I don't believe that there's any "right" or "wrong " way to do things, so I can't really explain the "rights" and push what goes against what I believe, if that makes sense. BUT ! I love giving art tips so much! I could talk on and on about tips, it's so much better than trying to play teacher for me. I have alot of experiences, good and bad, with art teachers, so I am more than happy to share thing's I've gain from it!
